Our group Pilates classes provide a general full body workout utilising all of the Pilates equipment including reformers. The exercises are set in sequence, toning, stretching and working the entire body with the focus on the body’s deep postural muscles. As you become stronger and more familiar with the exercises, the intensity and flow increases making the workouts more challenging.
For athletes, particularly runners and triathletes, Pilates mat classes can help improve the stability of joints such as back, shoulder, hip and neck. Overall it helps to improve muscle function and control through correct muscle firing and is an ideal complement to other training routines.
If you are pregnant or early postnatal, or are postnatal and have never done Pilates before, we recommend you have your initial Pilates consultation with either Renee Knowles or Jac Eley and continue with them until you are at a level where you can enter other physiotherapists’ classes.
Our classes are a maximum of three clients per class enabling very close monitoring, correction and individual progression of each participant. There is also an option for 1:1 private sessions.
If you are new to the clinic, a physiotherapist will spend 60 minutes with you prior to starting the classes. This consultation is required so that the Pilates physiotherapist can assess your body to determine where your strengths and weaknesses lie and address your specific imbalances during each class.
Pre-class consultation is not required if you are a current UPANDRUNNING patient, as your physiotherapist will discuss your needs with the Pilates clinician (who can also access your notes as required).
