Dubai, UAE – Osteo David is a member of the rehabilitation team at UPANDRUNNING and neck pain is a common condition presented at our clinic. Our osteopathic team see patients with a variety of neck pain issues ranging from simple neck strain to more complex cervical disc or neurological causes
Commonly neck pain is accompanied with other symptoms such as a headache, pins & needles, arm weakness or restricted movement. Some people describe it as an odd sensation or heaviness in the arm.
A common cause for these symptoms includes cervical radiculopathy. Cervical radiculopathy is a symptom indicating that some structures in the neck (or close to the neck) are impinging on the nerves which supply the arm. The symptoms will often vary in intensity and frequency and may be related to certain postural positions. These symptoms can be the result of many different factors such as cervical disc pathology, cervical spondylosis or thoracic outlet syndrome for example.
Through a detailed history taking and examination, your Osteopath can help identify the cause of your symptoms and advise you on appropriate treatment or further investigation required. Treatment may include a combination of techniques such as massage, joint mobilization, and manipulation, and advise on exercise and postural habits.
Thankfully many cases only have transient symptoms and can be managed over time with conservative management such as manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises and modification of posture.
For the more complex cases where symptoms are not resolving we can refer to our in-house sports medicine doctors and pain specialists to discuss further options.
