The Concussion Service at UPANDRUNNING continues to strive towards community education. Baseline testing of athletes has helped tremendously in working towards achieving the goal of returning athletes safely and timely back to school, work and sport.
During the first school term, our team saw concussions resulting from slips, trips, falls, followed by sports-related cases as the season got underway. Our team notes that there was an increase in the reporting of suspected concussions as the community became more aware in identifying the risks through increased education.
We are pleased to inform you that UPANDRUNNING has established effective working relationships with clubs & schools, such as Hurricanes, Tigers, Dubai College and Kings Al Barsha.
The Baseline Cognitive Test, CogState, forms an essential part of our assessment and monitoring during rehabilitation following a concussion. We encourage all athletes to sign up for this test. We can help schools and clubs as follows:
- Concussion Education session at your school or club (free of charge)
- Set up a concussion protocol for athletes to follow
- Baseline Testing sessions at the school, club or at our facility at AED 70 per athlete. (If suspected concussions are sustained, consultation charges will apply for treatment)
Any Athlete with a suspected concussion should be medically cleared before engaging in contact sport. Multiple concussions can be problematic if the brain has not had enough time to heal resulting in serious consequences following secondary impact
