Dubai, UAE – Manual Lymph Drainage is best known for reducing the effects of lymphoedema, but MLD is also proven to produce a positive effect on skin rejuvenation such as healing ulcers, eczema, scars and burns, reducing bloating and swelling from different causes (i.e. post surgery), healing ligaments and sprains, and in any situation where abnormal fluid build-up occurs in the body tissues.
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is an advanced therapy administered by MLD trained & certified massage therapist Louisa Grosvenor in which gentle rhythmic pumping techniques are used to stimulate the lymphatic system to encourage the removal of excess fluid and waste products and increase its rate of absorption from the surrounding tissues. The Vodder method uses a unique technique, by moving the skin in a rhythmic pattern, applying very light pumping movements to stimulate the contractions of the lymph vessel system. This method was discovered in the 1930s by French physician Dr Emil Vodder, who started to practice gentle massage over swollen lymph glands, only to later discover that this treatment helps to reduce lymph oedema through enhancing lymph flow.
MLD is a very light and gentle massage, using a range of specialized rhythmic pumping techniques to move the excess fluid and stimulate the lymphatic vessels, helping to drain the excess fluid away from the swollen area.
Why have MLD therapy?
The primary function of the lymphatic system is to protect our body from infection and disease. So having regular MLD helps to enhance this, and therefore helps to reduce the amount of colds and infections one may contract.
Lymphatic massage improves your overall health and can be used to assist with your body’s natural ability to heal itself, by encouraging the drainage of the lymph and in turn boosting the body’s immune system. It can assist with swelling, pain, sinus problems and scar tissue. MLD encourages the body to naturally detox, resulting in clearer skin, reduction in puffiness around tired eyes and improved skin tone. MLD is particularly effective in:
- Reducing primary and secondary lymphoedema, the latter sometimes arising after surgery.
- Helping chronic conditions such as sinusitis, arthritis, scleroderma, acne, rosacea and other skin conditions
- Relieving migraines.
- Relieving fluid congestion: swollen ankles, tired puffy eyes, water retention.
- Pre and Post operative
- Reducing Oedema and fluid build up
- Digestive disorders and IBS by calming inflammation and irritation.
- Promoting the healing of wounds and burns. Can improve the appearance and texture of old scars.
- Stress, anxiety, tension
- Swelling associated with pregnancy
Manual lymphatic drainage is nothing like a regular massage. After a session of MLD you will feel relaxed and at ease. MLD will also help to boost the immune system.
