Our sports medicine doctors are specialists in the diagnosis and management of injuries and illness affecting any kind of physical activity.
They are trained to treat injuries to the body’s joints, tendons, muscles and bones, as well as to address issues associated with illness, nutrition and sports psychology. They work with patients from all backgrounds, such as young children, older adults, ante and postnatal women, and athletes ranging from recreational to Olympic level.
Our doctors are skilled in advising on exercise programs for those with medical problems and can also coordinate screening, pre-event medicals and strategies for injury prevention, working closely with our integrated team of therapists. The skills of sports medicine doctors overlap with those of family medicine doctors, rheumatologists, orthopaedic doctors and radiologists. Therefore, they can offer a second opinion on conditions seen in these specialities.
WHEN SHOULD I SEE A SPORTS MEDICINE DOCTOR?
Our sports medicine doctors will ordinarily be your first point of contact at the clinic in order to establish a diagnosis, decide on a treatment plan and complete referrals for insurance as needed.
At your initial consultation they will listen to you and your concerns, putting this into context by discussing your previous illness and injury history, your personal and sporting goals as well as your current activity levels. They will complete a thorough physical exam which may include extra tests during the consultation such as blood tests or diagnostic ultrasound scanning, or referral for further imaging such as X-ray or MRI.
After collating this information our doctors work with you to explain your diagnosis and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs and symptoms. Your doctor will then coordinate delivery of this plan, working with our integrated team, with the aim of keeping you as active as possible throughout your rehabilitation process.
Treatment options will depend on the condition but may include:
- Soft tissue therapy / dry needling / acupuncture
- Strength training
- Clinical Pilates
- Injection therapy (e.g. cortisone, PRP, high volume injections, prolotherapy)
- Shockwave therapy
If surgery is felt to be necessary, our doctors can coordinate referral within a trusted network of European trained surgeons based in Dubai, and if needed can refer or discuss cases with a wider pool of UK based specialist surgeons to ensure your care is of the highest quality.
