Including an expert Podiatrist in your diabetic care program promotes a proactive approach to reducing the risk of chronic lower limb injuries and decrease the risk of hospitalization and more serious conditions. We recommend that a diabetic foot assessment should be carried out at least once a year.
At UPANDRUNNING our diabetic foot assessments look at the following factors:
Dermatological assessment, to evaluate skin problems, including dryness, cracking, calluses, blisters, and ulcers, treating any difficult nails and callus that need attention.
Neurologic and vascular assessments, conducting the Monofilament test and tuning fork sensation testing, reflex testing and vascular doppler.
Musculoskeletal assessment, to investigate any abnormalities in the shape and structure of your feet and toes. Our Podiatrist uses Force Plates to assess for any high-pressure areas that could be at risk of ulceration.
Footwear review and advice to consider custom footwear or bespoke foot orthoses.
