The Test Behind The Data
This isn’t a smartwatch estimate. This is laboratory-level performance testing. At UPANDRUNNING, VO2 max testing is delivered as a Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test — the clinical gold standard for performance and physiological assessment.
You’ll exercise on a treadmill or cycle ergometer wearing a heart rate monitor and a mask connected to a metabolic analyser. As intensity gradually increases, we analyse exactly how your body consumes oxygen, clears carbon dioxide and responds under load.
Once complete, you cool down while your clinician analyses the data in real time. You’ll leave with a complete picture of your aerobic system — and exactly how to use it.
Lactate Testing
If VO2 max tells you the size of your engine, lactate testing tells you how efficiently you can use it. For endurance athletes, your lactate threshold is one of the most important predictors of performance — it determines the pace, power or intensity you can sustain before fatigue rapidly escalates.
Added to your VO2 max, lactate testing involves small blood samples taken at regular intervals throughout your test. The result: a precise lactate curve that tells your coach or clinician exactly where your threshold sits, how to structure training around it, and how it changes over time.
